New Best Friend

21 May

Not really. But a new favourite show, which is kind of rare for me – I don’t really do television shows. I make special exceptions for Ladette to Lady and certain things with Matt Berry or Ricky Gervais though. And now this – Sons of Anarchy is grand – as I have been couch-bound in Deathville (read: I have a cold that won’t go away), Nath and I have spend almost every night in this week watching it. I love it. The main guy (see above) is pretty swanky considering I don’t usually go for boys whose hair is lighter than mine.

I previously summed up Avatar as ‘Pocahontas in space’; so I guess my two-noun-plus-a-conjunction impression of Sons of Anarchy is ‘Hamlet with motorcycles’. But it’s a bit more than that. There is a constant soundtrack of raw rocking bluesy music, and I love that it isn’t overacted – the number one reason I avoid most television.

Favourite moment so far: seeing Katey Sagal’s character smack a girl in the face with a skateboard. BEST.

However, mind to task! I have absolutely no idea what to wear to an upcoming engagement party. No mention of dress code on the invitation, and I am feeling poor, unfashionable and frumpy – worst combination. This is the mental process right now: buying a new dress is out of the question, yet my current mood means that everything I own will look disgusting on me, but if I were to get something new, I wouldn’t find anything because everything in the stores would look like junk on me anyway. Lose-lose-lose situation at this point.

If I manage to not go in a potato sack with a paper bag over my head, I’ll post photos.

Cement Machine

5 Apr

I have the flu. Kill. Me. Please.
It feels like my sinuses have been pumped full of cement. Heavy head, swollen neck, aching jaw, raging fever, and total feeling of malaise so bad that I wish I could just have my entire body amputated.. from itself.

Therefore, I am going to share with you some of the things that have amused me while I’m in Deathville (aka bed, swimming in a sea of tissues):

  • Francis Lam at Salon gives some tasty torture tips for making marshmallow peeps brŭlée – the comments are too funny.
  • I wish someone would buy me all the Penguin clothbound hardback classics, they are so beautiful:
  • Knitting a scarf, eating nutella and avoiding my Hamlet essay, due next week.
  • And finally, this is the trailer for the documentary film Nath, Aaron and I went to see on Friday:

Progressive Rocking

3 Apr

8:15-ishpm – heading out. Am wearing funny contact lenses; paranoid I look silly. Combat this by listening to Satyricon REALLY LOUD on the tram. Nobody sits next to me.

9:00pm – meet Nath and Aaron at Fed Square. Am only person at ACMI not wearing black. Feel out of place; want to take off pink scarf.

9:15-ishpm – waiting. Nervous, excited. Nathan makes fun of hipsters, I cringe because I probably l0ok like one. Aaron and I devise a tumblr-type blog where we photoshop corpse paint onto vapid celebrities.

9:30pm – film starts. Australian premiere of Until the Light Takes Us. Yes, YES. I am only girl there who isn’t a total retro vixen or deluxe goth – I am dressed in my usual, like a whimsical hippy hobogan (yes, I just coined that word).. feeling like a loser, but excited nonetheless.

Some time later:pm  – oh yes. I am in love with: Varg, Dead, Satyr (again), Frost (slightly), Fenriz and Faust.. Passionate idealism is so so so attractive…

Some time in between – we go to Beer Deluxe. I drink Franziskaner Hefferweisse and Fuller’s Organic Honey Dew ale. 2 pints of beer versus 50kg of girl….. tanked. Unfortunately. I was trying so hard to maintain a facade of awesomeness, which failed as I brought out gems like “perhaps black metal arose as an expression of disillusionment, alienation and despair; for these teenagers, exploring the ‘underculture’ of everything they were conditioned to loathe was their only solace when the idyllic society revealed its flaws”. I am so intellectual.

2:00am-ish – in the car listening to Bathory and King Diamond all the way home. Feeeeeel sick. We stop at McDonalds and they won’t let me in because it’s too late. BASTARDS> Yay – petrol station bathroom loves me.

2:something – we’re home. Posie loves me.

2:34am – I spill flour all over my laptop while trying to make waffles . Woah – milk – possibly a bit more dire than flour. Am drurnk. Am also worried – was folllowing waffle recipe that seems to have disappeare3d from my browser. Flying solo now, I guess.

Laterish.am – Waffles eaten. I am tired. I steal Nath’s Mayhem t-shirt and go to   bed.

Fairy Bread + Guinea Pigs

27 Mar

via 0xo

Damn. You know in films like The Butterfly Effect there is one crucial thing that could have changed everything? I was going to make fairy bread for lunch on Friday, but events changed and I ended up deciding that walking five minutes to the supermarket for sprinkles and bread was just TOO HARD. So no fairy bread.

I seriously think it could have made all the difference.

After work on Saturday, I fainted.
Weep weep.
Probably exhaustion, total and utter depression, stress, not eating or sleeping or receiving the recommended daily dose of cuddles from a puppy. I wish I could marry Posie sometimes.. but pretty sure Nath would fight me for her.
Pretty sure if it were a fist fight, I’d win.
